Human capital is an important element in shaping the competitiveness of business firms. The purpose of this study is an attempt to present the scope of impact of the quality characteristics of human capital on the economic performance of farms. The analysis covered the age, sex and education of the farm manager. Among the managers of surveyed farms, more than a half (55.4%) were people with secondary or higher education. Agricultural income of farms in this group averaged 53 758 PLN/year. The lowest economic efficiency was observed in farms whose owners had either basic schooling or vocational education. They accounted for respectively 30.8% and 13.8% of the population studied. / Synopsis. Kapitał ludzki jest istotnym elementem kształtującym konkurencyjność podmiotów gospodarczych.
