Abstract

Investing in commodities can be done twofold. It can be done indirectly, via buying stock of a commodity-based company or it can be done directly via purchasing a commodity in the spot market. Direct investing is usually the least problematic in the metals market. Investors support their decisions using various tools of technical analysis. They are applied in a similar manner whether for stock or metals market. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the direct and indirect investments by using a selected set of technical analysis indicators. The analysis covers the period from March 2009 to July 2011 and is based on spot prices. The basic indicators and oscillators are derived in order to determine the adequate (optimal) strategy. / Synopsis.
