Infección por Trypanosoma spp. en ovinos sintomáticos en el Municipio de León, Nicaragua

Abstract

La trypanosomiasis es una enfermedad debilitante y comúnmente fatal en los animales domésticos, especialmente en bovinos y pequeños rumiantes. Es ocasionada por varias especies de Trypanosomas, principalmente Trypanosoma vivax. Este estudio tiene por objetivo describir la prevalencia de Trypanosoma en ovinos sintomáticos en una finca del municipio de León, Nicaragua. Se analizaron un total de 100 ovinos pelibuey con sintomatología con la técnica de tinción de giemsa e Inmunofluorescencia Indirecta (IFI). Se identificó la presencia de Trypanosomas en el 47% en la tinción de Giemsa y un 85% de anticuerpos anti-Tripanosomas mediante la técnica IFI. Las hembras resultaron más afectadas que los machos. La característica clínica más relevante que presentaron los pelibuey fue la debilidad. Se recomienda realizar estudios aleatorios en diferentes zonas y épocas del año con el fin de establecer curvas de endemicidad.
