Mors Omnia Aequat: Historia Del Cementerio De Guadalupe De La Ciudad De León

Abstract

Este artículo describe la evolución histórica del Cementerio de Guadalupe desde sus orígenes en los años 1830, cuando en toda la nación surgieron los primeros cementerios fuera de las poblaciones. A través de las fechas en las tumbas y la revisión de fuentes documentales se llega a la conclusión que el cementerio fue creciendo desde el sur hacia el oeste, norte y este. En una última fase a finales del siglo XX se compró lo que se conoce como “anexo” del Cementerio de Guadalupe. Aparte de la evolución espacial el artículo describe, recurriendo principalmente a fuentes documentales, las funciones de las Juntas de Caridad, de Beneficencia y de Asistencia Social para entender cómo han sido administrados los cementerios en Nicaragua y el de Guadalupe en específico en diferentes etapas históricas antes de que pasara a la alcaldía en los años 1980. Atención especial recibe la muralla central, que fue declarada patrimonio nacional en 1983.
