Seroprevalencia del VIH/SIDA en mujeres embarazadas del municipio de Chinandega – Nicaragua

Abstract

La epidemia del VIH/SIDA en Nicaragua muestra una tendencia a la feminización, la transmisión vertical se ha incrementado de 2.4% en el 2001 al 5% en el 2007. En la transmisión de madre a hijo hay un 35% de posibilidad que una madre portadora o enferma de SIDA le transmita el virus al hijo. Se realizó un estudio descriptivo de corte transversal con el objetivo de determinar la seroprevalencia del VIH-SIDA en 1,410 mujeres embarazadas que acudieron a los puestos y centros de salud del municipio de Chinandega en el período de diciembre del 2006 a noviembre del 2007. Entre los resultados se encontró las edades mas frecuentes de 15- 24 años, de procedencia urbana, estado civil acompañadas, bajo nivel de escolaridad, amas de casa. El 54 % iniciaron su vida sexual entre 12 -16 años, y el 70 % nunca habían usado preservativo. La seroprevalencia encontrada fue de 0.35% (5/1410). El territorio más afectado fue el Roberto González con 1.0% (2/200). En segundo territorio más afectado fue, la Villa 15 de Julio con una seroprevalencia de 0.70%(2/284) y en tercer lugar el territorio Roberto Cortez con una seroprevalencia de 0.19% (1/510).
