Abstract

This research study investigates the potential for value chain integration among small and marginal millet farmers in the North Western Agro-climatic zone of Tamil Nadu, with a focus on the insights gained from Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs). Millet crops play a crucial role in the agricultural landscape of the region, as evidenced by their prominence in terms of area. The research design encompasses four districts in the North Western Agro-climatic zone, with one FPO selected from each district. A total of 30 farmers are chosen from each FPO, forming the sample size for the study. Factor analysis is employed to identify and analyze key factors influencing value chain integration among these farmers. The research utilizes a set of 20 statements to evaluate various aspects related to value chain integration. These statements encompass factors such as access to market, Opportunities for Value addition, policy and regulatory environment, finaical inclusion, Business environment of FPO and knowledge exchange. The insights gained from the study can inform strategies to improve market linkages, increase farmers’ income, enhance productivity, and promote sustainable agricultural practices among small and marginal millet farmers in the study region.
