Abstract
In order to improve the competitiveness, integration, transparency and price discovery in agricultural marketing system, Government of India implemented e-National Agriculture Market on pan India basis. It is expected that this new electronic model of marketing will reduce the number of intermediaries and barriers in the market significantly. Varanasi is one of the major vegetable producing district in the state and no cold storage and cold chain is available in APMC mandi. The present study was conducted in one of the major APMC Mandi, Pahariya (−e-mandi). Uttar Pradesh is a leading state in terms of area as well as production on various agricultural commodities viz. mill, food grains etc. Varanasi, U.P. with the objectives to study the constraints faced by the farmers in the use of e-NAM. Garrett's Ranking Technique was used to test the analysis of constraints. It was observed that despite of the implementation of e-NAM, farmers are facing the problem of insufficient infrastructures, no electronic price display boards, lack of cold storage facilities and proper auction platforms. Therefore, it is suggested that farmers should be motivated to take part in the e-NAM and Government should strengthen the marketing infrastructure and other facilities in the mandi.
