Abstract

Grapes export from India started in the year 1991 with the initiation of economic liberalization. The export of fresh grapes during the year 2013–14 was about 2 lakh metric tonnes, fetching an export earning of Rs. 1600 crores. The major importers of Indian grapes are Netherland, Russia, U.K, Bangladesh, U.S.A., U.A.E., and Saudi Arabia. The compound growth rate of export quantity was only 1.87 per cent during 1994–95 to 2003–04 and it was high with 15.43 per cent during the recent decade 2004–05 to 2013–14 which indicates the good performance of India in fresh grapes export. Compound growth rate of unit value realized was positive and significant. Among the top five grapes importing countries Netherland recorded a significant and positive growth rate in terms of both quantity and value followed by Bangladesh with low instability. Russia experienced a high positive growth in terms of quantity and the instability was also found to be high. The results of forecast showed the increasing quantity of grapes exports to Netherlands, Bangladesh and U.A.E. India has a great scope to increase the domestic production and thereby export of grapes in large quantities.
