Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic and the global economic crisis that developed in parallel have significantly transformed the functioning of the Hungarian economy, including the situation of workers and the development of the capital-labor relationship. It is generally accepted that human resources (HR), also known as labor, play a key role in the operation of companies and enterprises. The acquisition and retention of labor is essential for the smooth and continuous operation of organizations. The study examines the labor market situation in agriculture, paying special attention to the changes that occurred during and after the pandemic. In the framework of an online survey, 144 agricultural enterprises operating in the South Transdanubia region were examined in order to get an idea of the transformation of HR strategies caused by the epidemic situation. The research focused on the management of labor shortages and the application of labor retention measures. The results of the statistical analysis showed that enterprises use different tools and programs to manage labor shortages and labor retention, depending on their organizational size. It was concluded that in order to ensure the sustainable operation of economies, it is essential to prepare a crisis response plan, which also requires the integration of the HRM strategy. The research highlighted the importance and role of dual training programs and leadership training initiatives.
