Abstract
One of the most important pillars of a healthy lifestyle is healthy nutrition, in which FOP nutrition labels can support consumers in making the right decision. Diet-related lifestyle diseases are a problem worldwide. Healthy nutrition is essential for general well-being and the prevention of many chronic diseases. Special attention should be paid to the use of FOP nutrition labels for the prevention of chronic diseases and healthy decision-making. It is important that people can interpret the nutritional value of foods as simply as possible. Packaging should provide real and accurate information about the product. Nutrition labeling systems placed on packaging are supported by the public as a way of informing consumers and are accepted as a reliable source of information. According to research, nutritional labeling systems placed on food packaging have an incentive effect on consumers to prefer the version they consider to be “healthier”, thus supporting healthy eating and lifestyle. Based on focus group interviews, it can be stated that consumers with different health behaviors have different opinions not only about nutrition, but also about foods, their packaging and labeling. Members of the health-preventive group behave more consciously even when shopping, they spend more time looking at food labels, they are familiar with the nutritional labels placed on the front of the packaging, they find them to be a reliable source. In the non-conscious group, they spend less time examining the labels, they are not familiar with the FOP nutritional labels placed on the front of the packaging, but they evaluate the labels positively. Focus group interviews suggest that the introduction of front-of-pack labelling systems needs to be accompanied by a broad consumer education campaign to inform the public on how to understand and use the labels.
