Abstract
In this study, we examined the market situation and income-generating capacity of the pig sector, and in connection with this, we visited the sector. After the sector overview, we wanted to model a “good quality production practice” to demonstrate the income-generating capacity of pig farming. The Results presented what characterizes in-kind expenditures, production costs, and their structure and composition. It was found that feed costs account for approximately two-thirds of the total costs of pork production, so improving cost-effectiveness is a fundamental economic goal here. The main difficulty in production is the constantly changing purchase price, which fundamentally determines whether a given enterprise realizes a profit or loss. From the data, we deduced how the sales revenue of a virtual farm would develop under given circumstances, and it was concluded that at current market prices, it is not possible to achieve income in the pig sector without support, and the virtual farm was able to realize a profit solely thanks to the sectoral support. Finally, we illustrated with cross-tabulation analyses how the feed price and the fattening pig sales price, as well as the feed price and the feeding coefficient, influence the efficiency and economy of production. We can conclude that our virtual farm is in a difficult situation, because if the specific feed utilization increases minimally (cp), or feed prices increase (cp), the farm realizes a loss separately in both cases. With current feed prices, it is worth considering what compromise we make in terms of fully satisfying the needs of the given genetics, thus achieving either high-quality feed conversion and good meat quality indicators, or feeding cheaper feeds, which may worsen natural indicators, but we can achieve a more favorable level of cost-effectiveness.
