Abstract

The authors analyzed the characteristics of the linear economy and circular bioeconomy in addition to global challenges. Furthermore, in the light of energy consumption, CO2 emissions and energy dependence, they examine how realistic the achievement of the objectives of the European Green Deal can be, taking into account the energy and food security risks of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The Green Deal was not originally intended as a peace and security-building tool, but it has now become clear that a common energy strategy and energy union are also needed in the EU. If the Green Deal agenda is permanently suspended, the ecological consequences will be felt for decades, but despite the possible temporary suspension of the original agenda, climate neutrality is expected to be achieved by 2050.
