Abstract
One of the biggest challenges for the future of agriculture is generational renewal, as the aging of farm managers has been a problem for decades in both the European Union and Hungary, despite the support and measures to help young farmers. Based on the analysis of literature sources, secondary data, as well as the experiences of two primary questionnaires and interviews with experts and farmers, the study seeks to answer the question of what is characteristic of the generational change process of agricultural enterprises in our country, in which types of farms it represents the biggest problem, what are the main obstacles to farm transfer and what tools can help it most effectively. The research also examines the influence of support policy and regulation on generational change. The results highlight that in the domestic environment, generational change in agriculture mostly occurs within the family, the main obstacles being the low willingness of the older generation to transfer the farm, the administrative burdens related to transfer and inheritance, the difficulties of young people in accessing land and credit, and the lack of information regarding the conditions of succession. According to the research results, the solution may be a complex approach to the problem, differentiated according to farm type and socio-demographic characteristics, in which, in addition to financial support, tax and land regulations, as well as personalized knowledge transfer and information provision, together help the transfer of farms to younger generations.
