Abstract

Land policy and evolution of the farms' areas (Study based on a sample survey of fifty farmers of the East part of France) - A systematic analysis of the French agricultural state program (1960-1962 laws) shows the main targets of these laws and the devices used to attain these objectives. Moreover the effective actions of the Government Intervention since 1962 in the frame of this program were checked and appreciated. Indeed only the role of a SAFER was studied. The results of the activity of the Franche-Comté SAFER since its creation and mainly a survey among fifty farms were used for this study. So, 30 % of the total farm enlargement by purchase was achieved through the SAFER. But the growth of the farms is oftener achieved by renting than by buying and the SAFER, cannot give land in location. Lastly five factors seem related to the enlargement of farms : the starting area, the age of the operator, the professional orientation of the children, the part-time activity and the dependents.
