Agricultura familiar Algunas reflexiones para un debate necesario

Abstract

Mientras que en los países desarrollados la agricultura familiar es vista como algo anacrónico, en los países en vía de desarrollo continúa siendo percibida como un modelo agrícola atractivo y funcional para promover el desarrollo rural y el bienestar de la población local, así como una vía para la seguridad alimentaria. En todo caso, la agricultura familiar es difícil de aprehender sea cual fuere el área geográfica de estudio, al ser un fenómeno complejo y multidimensional. En muchas áreas rurales, las explotaciones familiares mantienen formas específicas de interacción con el territorio, los mercados y como consecuencia de ello muestran una gran variabilidad en sus modelos de organización interna y de gestión social y económica. En este artículo, su autor revisa en primer lugar el concepto tradicional de agricultura familiar con objeto de comprobar cuáles de sus elementos son aún vigentes y cuáles están ya obsoletos. En segundo lugar, propone algunas ideas para estimular el debate y construir un nuevo concepto más actualizado y más ajustado a la realidad empírica de este tipo de explotaciones agrarias cuya lógica es distinta de la de las explotaciones de base empresarial.
