Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the impact of the Marico-Bushveld State Water Scheme on the South African economy. For d1is purpose an input-output strocture for agriculture under this scheme was compiled. Existing averoge sectorial multipliers, as obtained from the Central Economic Advisory Service, were used to determine the impact of the scheme on the national economy in terms of Gross National Product {GNP), employment, and also as far as the effects on the treasury, the balance of payments and capital are concerned.
