The financial crisis – rethinking the economy

Abstract

The financial crisis was not only a short period of turmoil, but rather a vast phenomenon with grave long-term consequences on the financial sector and the real economy. It lead to a rethinking of financial intermediation and its means as well as to the creation of new policy instruments designed to respond to a new category of problems that were considered secondary to financial stability, in the past. It also generate new problems for the economy that called for extraordinary, unconventional measures.
