Abstract

Foreign direct investment (FDI) has been viewed as a power affecting economic growth directly and indirectly during the past few decades. Nowadays, in the context of the economic crisis, countries are more concerned on having growth but also to be sustainable. The changing direction of foreign direct investment from developed countries towards developing ones, especially after the crisis, has started to attract more attention in the literature. This paper aims to analyze the investment climate and how it’s evolution can affect sustainable development. First part contains a literature review about foreign direct investments and investment climate. The second part presents the recent trends on FDI. The last part of the paper underlines the main ways in which FDI affect sustainable development making references on Romania’s case.
