Abstract

The paper includes the investigation of the development of the Georgian banking system during the last twenty years. The study also describes the links between stability in transition economies and efficiency in banking system. The development of the financial sector has increased the interest for international financial institutions. I have selected four of the best performing Banks of the country. I have also constructed a number of banks performances' indicators, which are composed of variables capturing banks' profitability. The conclusions confirm that Georgian banking system is becoming more effective as long as the political environment in the country remains stable.
