Abstract

It is almost a consensus that religion provides its adherents forms of conduct of life and daily habits, because each religion has its doctrine, ethics and morals and, consequently, influences the way of life of people and their relationship with money. Roughly, the transformations of the Brazilian religious field in recent decades are noticeable, with their cultural, social and economic changes. In this sense, the aim of this study was to determine if a higher proportion of Protestant Christians have positive relationship with respect to education, income and economic development. Therefore, beyond the theoretical concepts discussed about Catholicism and Protestantism, estimated four regressions by OLS based on 2010 microdata Census, prepared by IBGE. The results are important because they demonstrate that the expansion of Protestantism in Brazil is a positive socioeconomic factor and possibly contributes to improving the indicators analyzed, as well as identifies the southern Brazil as with better conditions for economic development.
