Abstract

The Punta Porã Lagoon from the city of Pedro Juan Caballero is an area frequented by visitors for recreational, sporting and cultural purposes; it’s considered the symbol which represents the origin of the city. In the area of environmental economics they have developed valuation methods that estimate the benefits from these places. The overall objective of this study was to estimate part of the economic value, by the visitors’ willingness to pay. We used the contingent valuation method to do it, adopting the referendum model with logistic probability distribution. The mean willingness to pay WTP for the summer season is 150.889 Guaranies per month resulting in a monthly usage value of 174.729.462 Guaranies and being the annual value of the Punta Porã Lagoon approximately of 2.096.753.544 Guaranies.
