Abstract

The study examined the measures that BRICS can adopt before accepting new members to join their transnational network. These measures follow many countries that have subscribed to be BRICS member states. The idea in this paper is that BRICS cannot just accept countries to join their bloc without conducting a preliminary screening, as it affects the priorities already on the ground. The study shows that the selection process should follow social governance indicators (SGI) rather than economic indicators. Therefore, the BRICS countries can set the benchmark on every SG indicator so that if a new member wants to join, they should ensure they have met the benchmark criteria. These ideas have been supported by the results extracted from the Spearman rank test, which examined the impact of SG indicators on economic growth.
