Abstract

The paper explores the origin and development of the most important economic notion «goodwill» (business reputation). The author tracks the development of the notion in the works of leading foreign and Russian economists, reviews the basic theories that interpret an essence of goodwill notion and its connection with the economic assessment of a company. Special attention is given to the importance of the correct valuation of goodwill at the time of the global financial-and-economic crisis.
