Abstract

The article considers one of the most important aspects of the many-sided activities of Zemstvo (County) agencies in pre-Soviet Russia - economic assistance to farmers, the experience of which has not lost its relevance these days. That assistance included activities on improving the culture of agrarian production, the productivity of peasant labour, the yield of the soil, the promotion of peasant cooperatives, the development of Handicrafts in villages and suburbs, the disaster management in the village (crop failures, famine, dispossession of peasants).
