Abstract

Considering the importance of printed press in the formation of national opinion, this study objectified to identify those conceptions of work present in articles of Folha de São Paulo newspaper and Exame magazine. The development of the study consisted in the application of the method designated for content analyses (thematic analyses). In both periodicals, they were chosen articles that approached mainly the themes work/employment/unemployment. Among them, were established like the sample: 60 articles of the Examemagazine and 299 of the Folha de São Paulo newspaper. The identification of the themes (work values and work centrality) in the articles was developed, in the newspaper, for two judges, and, the magazine, for three judges. In both, a tendency to refer to work centrality in the articles about the work of managers and of graduates professionals, revealing the existence of a vision. In the both periodicals predominate the presence of values that reveal the persistence of a commitment with the ideas of Keynes and Ford, but, in the magazine, there is a trend to the rupture with the set of values of welfare state while, in the newspaper, there is a trend to progress to the conceptions more expressive of the work without such rupture.
