Abstract

The phenomenon of unemployment in the Iraqi economy is exacerbated for various reasons, which leads to worsening the problem of poverty. Economic crisis that has beset the global economy forcing governments to resort to austerity policies and weak private sector initiatives have further reduced job opportunities. Previous global experience proves that micro-enterprises reduce unemployment and alleviate poverty. However, the experience of funding small and medium enterprises is still new in the Iraqi economy. In this background, this paper attempts to study the way the financing of small and medium enterprises operates in Iraq; how effective it is and what challenges it is facing.
