Abstract

"Besides unemployment, employment is equally important for the labour market. Especially during the previous years, in Germany both variables performed rather differently, with employment experiencing a much stronger development than unemployment. The IAB labour market barometer that has been signalling the development of seasonally adjusted unemployment in the short term so far, is now upgraded to a more comprehensive leading indicator for the German labour market: From now on, it comprises - together with an outlook on unemployment (component A) - also an outlook on employment (component B). The IAB labour market barometer itself is calculated as the average of the partial indicators. This Brief Report shows how the new component B is constructed and how it performs in terms of forecast accuracy." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
