Abstract

Entre 2005 et 2014, la taille des classes moyennes de revenus a évolué de manière hétérogène au sein des pays européens. Elle s'est maintenue en France, en Belgique et aux Pays-Bas, pays caractérisés par des mécanismes de fixation des salaires à un niveau relativement agrégé et le maintien d'un État-providence assez généreux. Ceci contraste avec une tendance à l'érosion des classes moyennes de revenus observée en Allemagne, en Suède, ou dans les pays du Sud après la crise. Toutefois, même lorsque leur taille est stable, les classes moyennes sont touchées par la dégradation du marché du travail (augmentation du chômage et des emplois non standards), qui concerne plus particulièrement les classes moyennes moins aisées.
