Abstract

Universidades y responsables políticos dedican actualmente una especial atención a la cooperación universidad-empresa (CUE) considerada una poderosa herramienta para mejorar la capacidad de innovación del sector productivo y para promover el crecimiento económico sostenible. La mayor parte de la literatura sobre CUE analiza la transferencia de conocimiento bajo la hipótesis de que las actividades de investigación de las universidades, especialmente la investigación aplicada, tienen un impacto relevante en el desarrollo económico. Sin embargo, el interés en las actividades de transferencia del conocimiento ha desviado la atención de un hecho relevante: el principal impacto económico de las universidades es la 'producción de individuos' con las competencias adecuadas para aumentar la productividad económica, generar crecimiento económico sostenible y mejorar el bienestar social y económico. La literatura contempla que se debe tener en cuenta la contribución de los graduados para aumentar la capacidad de innovación, el cambio tecnológico y, en general, los beneficios no monetarios de la educación superior. En consecuencia, las tendencias recientes hacen hincapié en la necesidad de desarrollar la CUE con el fin de conseguir que los procesos de enseñanza-aprendizaje se adapten mejor a las necesidades cambiantes de la sociedad en general y de la productividad económica en particular. La CUE permite que los estudiantes se puedan implicar en actividades de innovación y emprendimiento, prácticas, seminarios, proyectos de investigación, etc. y así poder aplicar sus conocimientos y adquirir un aprendizaje en el mundo real, lo que mejorará sus posibilidades de empleabilidad. Bajo esta perspectiva, es relevante el papel de la CUE en la formación de graduados con las competencias adecuadas que la nueva sociedad y la nueva economía están exigiendo. Siguiendo este enfoque, este artículo presenta, analiza y discute los diferentes modos de CUE y el nuevo rol que deben jugar las instituciones de educación superior en este nuevo contexto.
