Abstract

In recent years, companies have increased their use of freelancers, who independently conduct important organizational tasks. The economic performance of freelancers is influenced by their employability. However, so far, it is unclear which factors influence the employability of freelancers. This paper aims to theoretically analyze and empirically test the influence of individual competences on freelancers’ employability. The findings of a large-scale study of German freelancers show that technical and network competence positively influence the employability of freelancers, whereas social competence has no influence.
