Bestimmungsfaktoren der Improvisation im Unternehmen

Abstract

Despite all planning efforts improvisation is a necessary, planning supplementing form of decision making, which finds nearly none attention in the literature. In the paper nature and influence factors of improvisations in companies are examined based on literature investigations of musical and organizational improvisation. Improvisation is defined as a future-oriented problem solution behaviour in which realization of the problem solution starts without a complete anticipative reflection of alternatives and their consequences and results are integrated within the further solution process. The paper clarifies the difficulties of observation, description and use as well as limitations of improvisations. Planning is the primary, problem solution form which is necessary for the improvisation, thus this gets a content and time frame, a structure and a goal and thus the necessarily knowledge for the improvisation can be acquired. Actor-problem-relation, meta-plan and decision maker’s constant orientation are identified for the first time as influencing factors of improvisation in firms. Based on these results a holistic perspective of influencing factors is derived. The discussion is limited to single-actor decision making. Group decisions are suitable for a further discussion.
