E-mail: bjorn.stensaker@iped.uio.noЗа последние десятилетия в разных странах мира создано множество ассоциаций университетов и стратегических межвузовских партнерств. Этот процесс можно интерпретировать по-разному, и в данной статье изложены некоторые теоретические подходы, которые помогут понять, как возникают такие союзы, как строится в их рамках совместная деятельность и как межвузовское сотрудничество влияет на сферу высшего образования в целом. Приведены доказательства того, что ассоциации университетов - это способ увеличить потенциал отдельных организаций и в то же время установить контроль в условиях конкуренции. Кроме того, ассоциации и партнерства можно рассматривать как способ естественным образом повысить творческий потенциал организаций и распространить инновации. Автор, опираясь на факты из истории The American Association of Universities, показывает, как с течением времени ассоциации развиваются и трансформируются, и рассматривает возможные долгосрочные последствия создания ассоциаций в секторе высшего образования.
