Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between strategic thinking and the level of achieving core competencies in one hand, and the influence of strategic thinking in achieving core competencies in other hand. The target population for this study comprised all Jordanian’s banks listed in Amman Stock Exchange (16 Banks). Data were collected from 13 Jordanian banks. It hypothesized that strategic thinking is significantly associated with core competence achievement, also strategic thinking is significantly influence core competence achievement. The results supported that strategic thinking dimensions (System Perspective, Intelligent Opportunism, and Intent Focus, Thinking in Time, Hypothesis Driven, and Thinking Skills) have significant influence in core competence achievement. These influences, however, were not all at the same level. Based on the findings of this study, there are several recommendations for top and line managers at the Jordanian banks, and limitations and directions were suggested for future research are also presented.
