From the Lake to the Plate: Assessing gender vulnerabilities throughout the fisheries chain

Abstract

Based on a case study carried out within fishing communities in Mali, Charlotte Tindall and Katrien Holvoet describe the implications of gender relations in the fisheries chain. They argue that addressing power and gender inequities throughout the marketing chain improves men's and women's livelihoods and the sustainability of the resource. They show how gender analysis led to dialogue at the community and national levels as well as actions for change in support of gender equity. Development (2008) 51, 205–211. doi:10.1057/dev.2008.6
