Abstract

The WSI Report on Minimum Wages 2013 gives an overview on the current developments of minimum wages in Europe and selected non-European countries. Evaluating the WSI Minimum Wage Database the report provides current data on the level and development of statutory minimum wages. In 2012 minimum wages increased only rather slightly or were even frozen at their current level. In many European countries the minimum wage earners were faced with a decrease in real wages. Affected are, in particular, those countries which are under the surveillance of the European Union and the International Monetary Fund and which have to follow austerity programmes including restrictive (minimum) wage policies.
