Gerarchie territoriali, localit? centrali e aree interne della Sicilia

Abstract

La presente ricerca riguarda un?analisi del contesto socio-economico della Sicilia interna prendendo come riferimento i modelli di gerarchia territoriale di economisti e geografi contemporanei. L?autore ipotizza che sia gli eventi congiunturali esogeni e, in parte, quelli endogeni pi? recenti, hanno accentuato le trasformazioni territoriali della Sicilia, accelerato i processi di concentrazione territoriale, e infine, consolidato una pi? forte gerarchia territoriale fondata sulla "dominanza" delle aree metropolitane rispetto alle aree interne dell?Isola. Prendendo spunto, quindi, dai principali modelli macroeconomici di geografia urbana l?autore identifica i tratti distintivi di un processo di arretramento delle zone interne della Sicilia e suggerisce una lettura interpretativa che tenga conto sia degli eventi e delle tendenze specifiche del territorio, sia del funzionamento di modelli dinamici che governano e determinano la localizzazione delle attivit? produttive, le gerarchie dei centri urbani, i processi evolutivi e di trasformazione produttiva. Dalla teoria delle localit? centrali ai modelli evolutivi pi? complessi l?autore propone, quindi, un sistema territoriale di tipo reticolare di citt? e di centri grandi e intermedi attraverso un sentiero di sviluppo alternativo che valorizzi un?organizzazione dello spazio e delle economie basato su un rapporto area internaarea metropolitana non pi? fondato sulla "dominanza" ma sulla specializzazione e sulla complementariet?.
