Abstract

El propósito de este artículo es probar empíricamente el impacto de la liberación de capital sobre el flujo del intercambio bilateral de bienes y servicios. Se empleó un modelo de gravedad extendido para veinte países latinoamericanos para un periodo comprendido entre 1995 y 1999. Los resultados indican que una reducción del 10 por ciento en regulación de los flujos de capital realza el comercio internacional aproximadamente en 1 por ciento en la muestra tomada. Los resultados empíricos crecieron substancialmente más fuertes y significativos durante el periodo de cinco años, indicando la importancia creciente de la liberación financiera después de las crisis económicas ocurridas en México y Brasil.
