El gran apretón crediticio en Colombia: una interpretación

Abstract

"La actual recesión colombiana ha venido acompanada de una caída sin precedentes en el stock real de crédito otorgado por el sistema financiero al resto de la economía. El planteamiento de este trabajo es el siguiente. Es un hecho empírico claro que la relación liquidez/cartera ha aumentado al tiempo que el stock de crédito se deteriora. Sin embargo también es un hecho empírico que a partir de 1997 los depósitos han caído de manera fuerte. Este trabajo busca explorar el impacto de una caída de depósitos sobre la composición de los activos del sistema financiero, y contrastar la importancia de este factor vis a vis el riesgo crediticio en la explicación de la dinámica reciente de la cartera en Colombia. El propósito último es aportar elementos para el entendimiento del proceso de transmisión de la política monetaria en Colombia. El trabajo se divide en 4 partes. En la segunda, se presentan algunos hechos estilizados importantes. En la tercera se presenta un esquema teórico sencillo. En la cuarta se efectúan las estimaciones econométricas y, finalmente, en la quinta se presentan las conclusiones.”
