¿Frenos al empoderamiento económico? Factores que limitan la inserción laboral y la calidad del empleo de las mujeres: el caso chileno

Abstract

Este artículo explica las divergencias en los resultados obtenidos por hombres y mujeres en el mercado laboral en Chile. Se distinguen dos clases de barreras a la inserción laboral femenina: las restricciones intrínsecas y las impuestas. Utilizando los datos de la Encuesta de caracterización socioeconómica nacional de 2011 se aplican modelos de probabilidad a cinco etapas características de la inserción laboral de los trabajadores, y luego se descomponen las brechas de género identificadas. Los resultados confirman la presencia de barreras culturales derivadas de la tradicional división sexual del trabajo que limitan la oferta de trabajo femenina y condicionan una inserción laboral más informal y de menor calidad en relación con los hombres. Asimismo, se constata que dichas limitaciones son reproducidas por mecanismos institucionales y de mercado por medio de factores de discriminación y segregación.
