Abstract

This case study presents Orange Fiber, an Italian start-up that epitomises resilience and innovation in the face of global environmental and industrial challenges. Founded in 2014 in Catania, the company has developed a patented process to transform citrus juice by-products into high-quality sustainable textiles for the fashion and luxury industries. By upcycling agricultural waste—an ecological burden in citrus-producing regions—Orange Fiber offers a scalable, circular solution that aligns environmental responsibility with economic value creation. The company’s Green Circular Business Model (GCBM) demonstrates how regenerative practices, product transparency, and strategic partnerships can foster competitive advantage and market differentiation. Through collaborations with brands like Salvatore Ferragamo and H&M, Orange Fiber has proven the viability of bio-based, biodegradable fabrics as substitutes for traditional materials such as silk. The chapter also explores the company’s approach to ecosystem building, stakeholder engagement, and capacity development, offering a replicable framework for green innovation in other sectors. Orange Fiber’s journey exemplifies how purpose-driven entrepreneurship and technological ingenuity can reshape supply chains and promote a more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient fashion industry.
