Abstract

The optimal workplace design must consider employee value creation and interactions in the networked, knowledge-based society. As workplace models evolve, they will increasingly prioritise networks, collaboration, and individualisation. The hybrid workplace, offering flexibility and catering to both individual and collective needs, is likely to prevail. Employee motivations for coming to the office vary, including mandatory presence, social interaction, development opportunities, task necessity, and effectiveness. Employers must adapt to the changing landscape, as the employee experience and preferences will significantly influence workplace models. The hybrid workplace should balance individual work focus with long-term investment in collective goals. Organisations that succeed in offering accommodating hybrid models will attract and retain the best talent, ensuring continued value creation and competitiveness. Emphasising psychological safety, flexibility, and a strong sense of belonging will be crucial in shaping the future of work. Ultimately, employees will increasingly dictate the terms of workplace models, making it essential for organisations to understand and respect their needs, ensuring a mutually beneficial and productive work environment.
