Abstract

Austria | One of the Europe-wide frontrunners in sustainability and CSR—Michaela Reitterer is setting overall trends in green tourism since 2001 with her first zero-energy balanced hotel. Her utmost concern for innovation, courage and willingness for conscientious sustainability at all levels rightly earned Michaela the nickname-award of Green Queen. At her award-winning Boutiquehotel Stadthalle in Vienna, she has created a tranquil urban gardening oasis with a magnificent lavender roof and a colony of honey bees; she is also setting standards by showcasing all 17 of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. As the long-time (former) president of the Austrian Federal Hotel association ÖHV, she has earned significant recognition for representing Austria’s top hospitality industry and as a distinguished expert for sustainability as a successful business case.
