Abstract

The rise of digital information has given birth to cyber frauds such as fraudulent transactions, extortion, denial of service attacks, and credit card fraud. The number of cyber incidents is growing rapidly. In order to curb these incidents, it is imperative to understand what are the cyber threats and what motivations drive these cyber incidents. There are several threat categories that pose severe cyber challenges to FinTech industry across the globe. The threat actors are politically, financially, and religiously motivated to launch cyberattacks. Threat modeling is the key to getting rid of cyber threats. FinTech threat modeling follows a structural approach that focuses on attacks, attackers, software, and assets. Several threat modeling methodologies such as STRIDE, Trike, VAST, and PASTA, can be applied to protect FinTech institutions. However, PASTA is the best fit for FinTech owing to the type of threat intelligence required for FinTech.
