Abstract

In this section, we will aim at depicting briefly the relationship between software-as-a-service, data and the logistics industry, with a particular focus on its impact on the last mile. We will explore the origin of their collaboration, supported by the ever-complex requirements of cross border trade and competition, the main players, as well as the business models used in this industry to understand how it works. Indeed, this relationship is becoming of crucial importance as these two opposite words, one being immaterial and the other asset-based, are consistently intertwined in today’s operations. Finally, we will also look at a particular case, using the company what3words as an example.
