Abstract

Strategy is a crucial prerequisite for a successful transformation. We contend that “digital strategy” will soon be plain “strategy” as digital becomes naturally incorporated into the DNA of organizations. DNA Science Despite its importance, strategy is plagued with challenges: its absence or obsolescence; lack of communication about it or adherence to it; an obsession with tactics, quick wins, and other short-term distractions; lack of situational awareness and copycatcopycat behavior; and “trickle-down dilution” as meaningful progress is stifled by resistance to change throughout the organization. In this chapter, we explore these challenges and how to overcome them. We also make the case for a bi-modal strategy and provide recommendations for its design and execution.
