Wie Ungleichheit verstanden wird: Eigene Erfahrungen beeinflussen, ob junge Erwachsene an Erfolg durch Anstrengung oder an den Zufall glauben

Abstract

Vom Ideal der Chancengleichheit ist unsere Gesellschaft weit entfernt. Dennoch bestimmen nicht nur Glück und Beziehungen, wie weit es jemand bringt; Anstrengung verspricht ein gewisses Maß an sozialer Mobilität. Was aber wird als wichtiger wahrgenommen – Glück oder Fleiß? Für junge Menschen kann die Antwort auf diese Frage mitentscheidend sein für ihre Motivation in den Bereichen Bildung und Beruf und für das Vertrauen in soziale Gerechtigkeit. Was prägt den Glauben, dass Erfolg von Glück oder von Anstrengung abhängt? Eine Untersuchung bei Bewerberinnen und Bewerbern für ein Medizinstudium lässt einige Muster erkennen.
