Las políticas públicas y su impacto en el turismo sudamericano

Abstract

Es sabido que la industria del turismo presenta una fuerte sensibilidad respecto de una serie de políticas que deciden e implementan las autoridades públicas, tanto a nivel del gobierno central como a los niveles regional, provincial y municipal. Estas políticas pueden afectar positiva o negativamente a la actividad turística, o a ciertos aspectos de ella, directamente y, más a menudo, en forma indirecta. Por otra parte, es frecuente que los empresarios del sector, e incluso muchos altos responsables públicos del turismo sudamericano, manifiesten su preocupación o malestar por la poca consideración que se tiene de esta actividad económica al momento de formar políticas públicas en diversas áreas que impactan en el desarrollo y la operación del turismo. En esta conferencia se tratará de identificar las principales áreas de políticas y la forma en que ellas impactan en el turismo y se planteará la necesidad de desarrollar -por parte de investigadores, académicos y consultores del sector en la región sudamericana- una batería de indicadores que permitan medir tales impactos en forma más científica.
