Abstract

High-risk drug trafficking is a growing threat to Romania's national security. Organized crime has been exceedingly resilient to anti-drug policies. Despite the efforts and initiatives of national and international institutions to prevent illicit drug trade, Romania faces massive flows of drugs on its territory. Regarding the fact that Romania is located in a strategic area between high-risk drug trafficking sea routes and major European consumption markets, Romanian drug crime progress could also impact the advancement of drug trafficking at a transnational level, affecting the national security of strategic partners. Motivated by these remarks, in this paper, my aim is to analyze the open source data on evolution of drug trafficking in Romania, in period 2016-2022. This article investigates the geographical expanding of illicit high-risk drug trade in Romania and also the response of national institutions.
