Abstract

The study addressed the relationship between autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and anxiety, one of the most common comorbidities in this population. The difficulties faced by children with ASD due to anxiety and how this negatively affected their quality of life were described. The effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) as an adapted intervention to reduce anxiety levels in this population was analysed, considering different modalities such as individual, group and online sessions. The relevance of including parents in the therapeutic process was also emphasised, which significantly improved the results. Finally, it was concluded that CBT, when personalised and contextualised, proved to be an effective tool for addressing anxiety symptoms and promoting the general well-being of children with ASD.
