Semaglutide, its usefulness in type 2 diabetes and obesity: A systematic literature review

Introduction: The drug Semaglutide, used in patients with type 2 diabetes and/or obesity, increases its efficacy when the patient practices physical activity complemented by a healthy and varied diet, reduced in carbohydrates and a hypocaloric diet. It was also found to reduce appetite and slow digestion in the stomach, which in turn helps to reduce body fat. These two pathologies have been affecting the world for decades, they are diseases that, as major problems, are considered the most important socio-health problems worldwide which is having implications at a social and economic level that is not only limited to affecting the Republic of Argentina. Material and method: A systematic review of the literature was carried out to evaluate the efficacy and adverse effects of Semaglutide. The articles were selected from PubMed, SciELO, Google Scholar and Elsevier databases, including publications in Spanish and English. Four studies were included from the pre-selected bibliography that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. For all its actions, this drug is considered as a complement to a diet and physical activity in patients diagnosed with obesity and/or type 2 diabetes, in order to improve the patient's lifestyle and blood glucose levels and thus avoid the complications that can develop these pathologies.
